From a draft for the Victoria County History of Somerset"In a reversal of former trends many DUNSTER people moved to Wales, a few servants and craftsmen at first but by 1881 79 DUNSTER people had settled there, many working in the Glamorgan collieries including saddler John Markham. John, a Wesleyan Methodist, had emigrated to Australia in 1851 with his mother, a baker, his wife, his sister, a servant, and his brother, a labourer. His eldest children were born in Geelong where they were joined by his brother Thomas, a carpenter, with his family in 1853. The same year another DUNSTER Wesleyan John Tudball, labourer, emigrated to Melbourne, Australia with his new wife and sister in law. John Markham, his family and his mother returned to West Street,DUNSTER c. 1860 before moving to Devon and in the 1870s to Newport with his wife and five of his children. A DUNSTER youth was killed in Aber Colliery, Llandyfodwg , Glamorgan in 1893 and a Canadian railway surveyor from DUNSTER is said to have named DUNSTER and Croydon stations in British Columbia in 1913."
