Only Thomas is named as the parent of the first three children, but the dates and repetition of names suggest strongly that these three children died and were followed by three namesakes and Jane, all of whom were baptised as children of Thomas and Sarah MORCOMBE (or a variant of the surname).Dr CAMBELL's Index (which only uses the variant MORCOMBE) lists the following Dunster entries which should be investigated as possible ancestors of Thomas MORKHAM/MORCOMBE:Thomas MORCOMBE son of Thomas and Honour bapt. 1670 in Dunster. [The other children of this couple listed are George 1674 and Catherine 1678.]Thomas MORCOMBE m Susan (no marriage date) and are only listed as having a son John bapt. in 1663 in Dunstan. Could the Thomas who married Honour be an early child of this couple - say c. 1650?There is also a monumental inscription on page 92 of "Dunster Church & Priory" by F HANCOCK"Here lyeth the Body of Katherine MORKHAM the wife of John MORKHAM who died Nov the 19th 1692 My glasse is run'd my time is past So thou that liveth must dye at last"
It is almost certain, however, that these sources only contain a minority of the MORCOMBE's in Dunster in the 1600s, so there are very likely to be other unknown candidates who could prove to be the parents and grandparents of Thomas (15479).There has been speculation that the MORKHAMs were descended from the Norman de MOHUNS who built Dunster Castle but this is improbable as the male line of the de MOHUNS died out in 1375 which led to the Dunster estates being sold to the LUTRELLs.
