The following case may refer to this MORECOMBE as he was in Invercargill and about the right age:Evening Post, Volume XXXII, Issue 89, 30 August 1886, Page 2 The First Offenders' Probation Act. [By Telegraph.] [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.]iNVERKCARGILL 28th Angnst. At the Supreme Court this morning, before Mr. Justice Johnston, four boys of ages ranging from 13 to 16 years, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the Leviathan Gift Depot and stealing goods therefrom, were brought up for sentence...........He learnt that it was possible for the Invercargill gaoler to be able to keep tho boys apart [from adults], and only under these ciroumtances he cared to pass sentence. Had adults committed the offence they would deserve a considerable period of penal servitude. Morecombe and Pomeroy, who had been previously convicted, would be sentenced to six months' hard labour. Rogers and Asprey, who were first offenders, were sentenced to three months hard labour- The sentences were as light as he dared
