GENERAL NOTE:
In a conversation that took place at Johnson Senior Center with her and Diana Pace on February 16, 2000, she told several stories about her life. She said that even though the records indicate that she was born in 1904, she was really born in 1909. This happened because she lied about her age in order to get married at 16 years old. She said that she and Wood and a car load of friends, I am told that Percy was one of them, went to Amherst and the two of them got married. The friends were witnesses as to the fact that she was 21 instead of the real age that she was of 16. She said that that night, while still in Amherst, they also went to the Amherst Fair. She also spoke of the night that Wood passed away. She said that it had snowed and he had gone outside and shoveled paths to all of the outbuildings so as to make it easier to get around in the snow. He came in and sat in one of the 2 chairs by the fire to get warm. She was in the kitchen putting together the milk separator and fixing supper. After a while, she told him to come on in the kitchen and start putting butter on his bread while it was still warm. She went on back into the kitchen and continued to work. He never showed up so she went back into the living room and said "Boy, you better come on in here and butter your bread while it is still hot." There was still no response, so she went over and shook him a little. She noticed that his arm was hanging down beside the arm on the chair and his eyes were closed as if he had gone to sleep. It was then that she realized that he had passed away. There was no telephone in the house so she took a flashlight and tried shining it down at Ronnie's house trying to attract attention. After having no luck with the flashlight, she turned on all the lights in the house hoping that someone would notice. Still no luck. She decided to drive the car down to his house even though the ground was covered with ice. The car had been sitting for 2 weeks, but started immediately. She slowly drove down to their house and was met by Betty, Ronnie's wife coming out of the house. She asked her what was going on for her to drive down in the ice and she told her that Wood had passed away. She told her to go on inside and that she was sure that he hadn't, trying to reassure her and that they would go and check on him.

GENERAL NOTE:
In 1851 Hannah was living with Elizabeth, her daughter age 22, and her son Richard, age 3. We cannot find her other young children Ann, Jane and Mary in the 1851 Census index. One possibility is that they were missed because they were in a workhouse following the death of their father. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED WHEN A FULLER 1851 CENSUS IS AVAILABLE.Hannah was living with dau.Jane and granddaughter Alma Ann in 1881 in Little Polgooth, St Ewe. Living nearby was daughter Mary, who was looking after her sister Ann STARK's five children. It seems unlikely that Thomas and Ann STARK would have died in the previous five years, and their three eldest children had died after the 1871 census. They had probably gone abroad with the intention that the rest of the family would follow them later.
