GENERAL NOTE:
Summary of news report in Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper (London, England), Sunday, April 19, 1863; Issue 1065 which refers to Susan MORCOMBE nee JULIAN: Susan was the landlady of 45, James Street New-cut, and her lodgers for the past fifteen months were Thomas BARROW and his wife Hannah. One day in April 1863. BARROW, a powerful man returned home drunk and immediately began to quarrel with his wife. Susan heard Hannah call out murder and going round to the back of the hosue, she saw, through a window, that Thomas BARROW was striking his wife over the head with a poker. She called a policeman who charged Thomas with attempted murder. With assistance, Susan moved the insensible Hannah onto a bed. A surgeon was called and decided as Hannah had a brain injury she should not be moved from the bed.In 1911 Susan was looking after Fanny CARL, grandchild, aged 10, at school, b. Lambeth. Not known which daughter's child this was.
