GENERAL NOTE:
According to information from Ethel May RULE nee MORCOM herself, and from her daughter Doris Mae BABLE (nee RULE}, when Susanna became pregnant with Ethel May, William decided she should go up from the brother's ranch near Clinton to Garnet, so that she might be near the midwife Mrs PAGE when her time arrived. On a cold and snowy day in November, William hitched up his sturdy team of horses to the cart, and took Susanna up the mountain to Mrs PAGE's cabin. Ethel was born safely on 11 March , and it was April before the roads were passable enough to return to the MORCOM ranch. Even today the road to Garnet ghost town is closed to wheeled vehicles from January 1 to April 30.Another account says that Ethel was born in a log cabin on Granite Peak, 11 miles up from the Morcom ranch, whereas, if the location of the ranch was correctly described, Garnet itself was well over 20 miles away. The temperature was 40 degrees below zero.No birth certificate was recorded at Missoula, Montana.
