Fate: Returned to AustraliaArticle in The Advertiser (Adelaide) of 20 September 1916: A letter from R.L Vertelli MORCOM, youngest son of Mr. and MrJames Morcom, of HalifaxStreet, was received by the last mail, dated August 17, from Romani, Egypt. He writes:-'"We have had good time the last two days and nights. The Turks were at Katia. They advancedon our position, We were on outpost duty on to the right, of our camp, when heard [?hords?]of the Turks came yelling, Allah! Allah! Over 3.000 prisoners were taken, and upent their white flags The colonel and the major complimented our boys on waythey did their work. I have got a septic hand, and cholera has broken outhere so they may possibly keep me here, for a while. I am hoping that I will soonbe out of this, as I am sick of doing nothing. I went right through the fighting, andnever got a scratch. This is my first experience of a hospital over hereand I hope it will be the last, as I would sooner be with the boys at the front.".
