GENERAL NOTE:
Earl retired in 1955. In 1958 he had an accident in which he lost a portion of his left arm. This is a summary of the Winona Republican Herald which is fully reproduced in MORCOMB FAMILY:Earl was walking along a railway line near Homer towards a river fishing spot. He was carrying his fishing gear. It was very foggy at 6 a.m and he did not hear a Milwaukee Road passenger train approaching from behind him until it was almost upon him. He leapt to one side but his extended left arm was hit by the locomotive above the wrist. Another fisherman heard his calls for help and an ambulance took him to hospital. Surgery to re-attach the arm was unsuccessful and his arm was amputated between the wrist and elbow. He was fitted with an artificial arm but seldom used it. He used it most often when he shot pool at the "Hurry Back" on Third Street in downtown Winona.Earl MORCOMB was a member of the Ridgeway United Methodist Church and was a more than 60 yr member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
