OCCUPATION:
BlacksmithOccupation Note: CON.

GENERAL NOTE:
This summarises notes taken by Paul A MORCOM from the following sources:Quarter Sessions of the Peace - Order Books 1737-1799See Paul's letter(1) to Bronte GOULD for fuller citations.Phillipa was very pregnant or had given birth when she married William by Special Licence at Bodmin, 16 Jul 1787. It appears that the Parish brought a suit of Bastardy against William, and for want of a Surety he was sent to the custody of the Bridewell keeper at Bodmin Goal. In the July 1787 Lostwithiel Sessions there is an entry William MORCOMB of Mawgam in Meneage .... bastardy, remanded to next Sessions - but his name does not seem to appear again. It may well be, that as he elected to marry Phillipa [she is not actually named in the documents], the suit of Bastardy was dissolved. The County Treasurer's Accounts 1782-1794 C.R.O.Ref: Qs/16/1/1: 1787 p.176 show that £4 cash was paid for conveying William MORCOMB to Bodmin Gaol, as per order of Mr GLYNN. The Account of James CHAPPLE, Keeper of Bodmin Gaol, showed that he charged 13s 6d at the time of MORCOMB's release

The MORCOMs must have had some exciting times even in Gweek. Age at death should have been 80 not 84, unless the baptism was much delayed. In the UK birth registration, christening and 1851 census record he is William MORCOMB. In 1861 census William A MORCOMBHe may have invented the grandiose name William Rouse Trevillion MORCOM for himself, as the only evidence for his father also having the forename Rouse is in his son's death record. He may have have been in doubt how to spell "Rouse"1919 William Roupe Tresillan MORCOMB, independent means, at 138 Park Street, Melbourne South, Fawkner, VIC AUS1924 William Rousse T MORCOMB, labourer, 212 Edward Street, Brunswick South, Bourke, VIC AUS.In 1914 the entry, also in Melbourne South, Fawkner, was for William MORCOMB, labourerThere were no other MORCOMBs at the same addresses in the three entries
