OCCUPATION:
BEF 1838-AFT 1841: Miner in Ladock.

GENERAL NOTES:
B Identification of this Thomas as identical with the one christened in 1796 as the son of William MORCOMBE and Elizabeth nee PEARCE is tentative and needs further evidence. The names of nine of Thomas's ten children also appear in William's family of eleven, but they are all common names.
This Thomas MORCOM is likely to be the subject of the Quarter Sessions report of of Thursday Jan 4 1844 in the Second Court"THOMAS MORCOM, 47, was charged with having stolen a drake, the property of EDWARD ARTHUR, of Ladock. RICHARD ANDREW examined: I live in Ladock, and the prisoner lived in the same parish; on the night of the 23rd of October, I watched with EDWARD NICHOLLS (since dead) and THOMAS BRENTON, in a field at the end of the prisoner's house; I remained in that field the greater part of the night; I saw the prisoner again about five in the morning in the same field, coming towards his own house; he had a sack on his back. I spoke to him, and asked him what he had, but as he gave no satisfactory answer, we took the sack from him and conveyed it to the constable's house. On the sack being opened, it was found to contain five drakes and five fowls. There was a drake of a particular colour, which was claimed by Mr. Arthur as his property.THOMAS BRENTON corroborated the above evidence, adding that he was going home before Morcom returned, and saw him in the road about a quarter of a mile from his house. The prisoner, on seeing witness, turned into a field, and witness went back again to Andrew. At that time prisoner had a bag on his back, and witness waited till he was apprehended. WILLIAM BASSETT, the Ladock constable, produced the feet of the drake, which the witness identified as belonging to one of the drakes found in the sack, and the Prosecutor identified them as his property. GUILTY. FOUR MONTHS’ HARD LABOUR.................................................THE PRISONER was again indicted for having stolen a drake, the property of LEWIS TRUSCOTT, of St. Stephens in Branwell. The evidence in this case was the same as the last, with the exception of the prosecutor's, which was satisfactory as to the identity of the drake, and to the fact of its being his property. GUILTY. FOUR MONTHS' HARD LABOUR, to commence after the termination of the former sentence.".................................................

GENERAL NOTE:
NB It is uncertain whether the 1881 and 1891/1901 Mary MORCOM are the same. The ages are a reasonable match for a servant and in all three entries she is "b. Redruth". She is working in hotels in the area around Penzance in all three census years. BUT in 1881 she is said to be unmarried, in 1891 a widow, and in 1901 married! Was one, or more, of these entries errors by her employer or are there 2 or 3 individuals in this entry? Was her maiden name MORCOM?
