BIRTH:
ABT 1763 GUESS 20 years pre marriage

RESIDENCES:
BEF 1783-BEF 1805: Probus,CON
BEF 1805 Lowlissick,Probus,CON

GENERAL NOTE:
The variation of the spelling of the surname in this family has been difficult to record. In 1805 a Cornwall Land Tax record at the Cornwall Records Office records the following (Ref 129)Lower LessickProprietors: LAWRENS and PEARCEOccupant: William MORCOMBESum Assessed: 6 penceLower Lessick may have been incorrectly read and could have been Lowlissick which was to the SW of Probus Church near an area know as Probus Green. In the 1834 Tithe Apportionments, Lowlisseck comprised one messuage, 3 gardens and 3 orchards totalling 13 acres, and a further 10 acres of meadows and 5 acres of moor. It is across the main road from a place still known as Lelisseck, Probus Green, and is still a rural area.It is likely that William (00159) is the William MORCOMBE in the Land Tax Record because his wife was a PEARCE and his grandson Thomas MORCOM (08799) was recorded as "of Lower Lissick" when he was buried on 10 June 1821 in Probus.See also the unidentified Thomas MORCOM (15538), son of Thomasin. They were at Lower Lessicke in 1802 when Thomas, aged 7, was apprenticed to Matthew ROBERTS of Lemellen, half a mile north of Probus town.Cornwall Records office holds a document about Levardro which is summarised as:Contents:Letter from Jn. Grieve to Wm. Stackhouse, 1790.Endorsed: "Morcum's house at Levarder, about the land unlawfully held by lessee in consequence of neglect by Lord; now gone too far for recovery".If the document regarding the ownership of Levardro was correctly read as referring to "Wm" MORCOM then this William is the only one found in Probus, as yet, who is of sufficient age to be the occupant. This, if confirmed, would be a most significant link between him and the later Levardro family and would suggest that he is a son of Samuel MORCOM (06476) and Jane BEDELLA, and uncle of John MORCOMB (05511) who was at Levardro in 1841 [See also reference to Levardro under John MORCOMB (05511)]

OCCUPATION:
BEF 1861-AFT 1861: Royal Marine in Plymouth.Occupation Note: it is presumably the same Charles who is also entered in the 1861 census as Charles MORCOM, no age given, b. GENERAL NOTE:
No trace of this family has been found elsewhere. Marriage is not listed in Plymouth Marriages CDs. Possible that surname is misspelt (i.e not a MORCOM[E},) or this was a common law marriage, the child being registered, if at all, in her mother's name. One possibility is a family in Leicester in 1891:Charles MORON, 69, b. Hinkley, LeicestershireElizabeth Ann MORON, 63, b. Hinkley, Leicestershire.Could the birth place of Mary be incorrect in 1861 or 1891. Their ages fit within a year or two
