GENERAL NOTE:
Vestry (=Parish Council) Meetings were largely concerned with financial matters. There are two possible reasons why there should be a 1844 minute concerning the RICHARDS family. One possibility was that the vestry was noting that they should no longer expect payment of the local rates from this family. Maybe, more likely is that the wife and child had become paupers, and it was cheaper for the vestry to decide to make a grant to pay for or assist their passage to join Solomon in Wisconsin than to continue paying for their support indefinitely. The precise year 1844 seems to be given in the minutes for Jane and her son's emigration, whereas a vague 1825 to 1844 is given for her husband, Solomon.
