BEF 1889-AFT 1891: Insurance Agent for Trav.Ins.Co. Jim was still travelling as, on 10th Sept 1890, he wrote to his wife from Springfield, Ohio in Hartford, CT.
BEF Jun 1900-AFT Jun 1900: Adjuster Insurance in Hartford.

GENERAL NOTES:
General Registry, Finch Road, Douglas, Isle of Man confirmed James Joseph's birth on the Isle of Man when I bought the marriage certificate of his parents. Alfred MORCOM, his great-nephew, wrote in 1960: "Great Uncle Jim also went over to the States and I have no detailed record of what happened to him, except that one of his sons became a Vice President of an insurance company in Connecticut. One of his grandsons, Jim MORCOM, who is in fact a second cousin of mine, is the present Art Director of Radio City, New York."
On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of their marriage, Jim MORCOM wrote to his wife from the Arcade Hotel, Springfield, Ohio: "It has always occurred to me that it showed a great deal of common sense, sagacity and forethought on your partwhen you adopted me as the partner of your sorrows, joys etc. Oh! I have heard that before you say. and you'll be apt to hear it again if I continue to retain the amount of self conceit and gall that I am endowed with at present." He do does, however, go on to say that "I was a long way from being foolish when I picked you out for a wife"He had been seeing clients in Fort Wayne and Springfield and expected to be in St Louis by the end of the week.He refers to his base being Hartford CT. He mentions Will and Fred being at school and requests that Mary Anne arrange for Clifford to start school. The letters of both Jim and his wife were very literate. It is very noticeable how successful the many descendants of the Whitehall MORCOMs were in England, Wales, Australia and the USA. Even when they started in fairly humble jobs, many ofthem made good. I would suggest that this probably derived from a mixture of a good educational base and self confidence based on past family successes more than any genetic factor
Hazel Addie MOORE was mistaken in her belief that the father of James Joseph was Joseph MORCOM and that Joseph married Elizabeth BAWDEN. A marriage certificate for James MORCOM and Elizabeth BAWDEN disproves this, and James Joseph was in thesame household as James and Elizabeth in the 1861 census of Tavistock, Devon. It is possible that James Joseph came to Montreal with his uncle Joseph MORCOM, not his father James MORCOM, and this led to Hazel Addie's belief that Joseph was thefather of James Joseph. If her statement that James and Joseph were both in the Isle of Man is correct, then James Joseph could have been close to his uncle. Joseph was a successful entrepreneur, who exhibited iron, copper and lead samples at the 1851 Great Exhibition in the Crystal Palace, and was by 1856 investing in Cornish mines. We do not know whether the visit to Montreal c. 1864 was a brief business visit or a longer stay during which either James MORCOM or Joseph MORCOM [which everit was] worked on the bridge. It it is also possible that the 12 year old James Joseph worked on construction of the bridge as several children between 8 & 12 were among the 3040 workmen.
