There is no suitable birth or death registration for "Rebecca MORCOM" in the UK, and she does not appear in the 1871 UK census. Did she die on the way to, or in, New Zealand? She would have been about the same age as her brother Richard Phillip who is not with his mother in the 1861 census. Could the enumerator have made a completely incorrect entry?

Reginald's Christening was on St John's Day. This entry was probably the vicar's way of glossing over the christening being only three days after the couple married. It was also a day for cleansing of one's soul. The Durham Mining Museum has the following account of his death online: "Morcom, Reginald, 24 Sep 1892, 8:30 a.m., 3rd hour of shift, aged 19, Locomotive Stoker, Although provided with a coupling stick, he went under the buffers of some moving waggons to uncouple them, and when coming out again he was caught by the wheel of the following waggon [Inspection made & inquest attended]"There is the following record in the database of the Coalmining History Resource Centre:Name: MORCOM ReginaldAge: 19Date: 24/09/1892Year: 1892Occupation: Loco. stokerColliery: Stank No.9 (metalliferous)Owner: Barrow Haematite Steel Co LtdTown: BarrowCounty: LancashireNotes: Inspection made and inquest attended.
