There is a death registered for a John in St Germans Q1 1844 (no age given) so could be anyone.It is also possible that this is the John MORCOM, occupier of a house in High Street Penryn which was the subject of litigation at Bodmin Quarter Sessions on 7 October 1784 and 13 January 1785 between various property owners and Penryn parishover poor relief rates. [Ref QS/1/5/1-34 and QS/1/5/35-63. It is also possible taht he is the John MORCOM of Helstone who in 1780 subscribed to "Life Reviwed: a Poem founded on Reflections upon the Silent Inhabitants of the Churchyard of Truro" by Elizabeth SMITH, published in Exeter in 1880. His son John was born in Helston in the previous year

GENERAL NOTE:
There are some interesting links (or are they just coincidences!?) between Captain John MORCOM and Captain Elisha MORCOM (b.1835) who was mine superintendent of the Soudan mine which initiated iron ore mining in Minnesota.1. Captain John's and Elisha's fathers were both mine captains in Gwennap. Several members of both families were living at Sunny Corner in 1841.2. The name Elisha occurs twice among John's siblings and twice among his brother William's children. John also had a son and grandson called Elisha.3. Captain John and Captain Elisha were both copper mining in Keweenaw Co., MI c.1854-56, the former having earlier established mining in the area.4. In 1884-87 Captain Elisha was Mining Superintendent at Soudan, and in 1889 he set up a brick factory at the same town. Elisha, the young grandson of Captain John, came from Wisconsin to Tower to work there as a lawyer between 1887 and 1891. Tower was only about three miles from Soudan.They may have shared a descent from Digory MORCOM who married in Gwennap on 15 Dec 1717 but this depends on a speculative identification of John's father William (05633) as the son of John MORCOM and Frances nee SAUNDERS.
